Idiot of the Month: Floyd “Money” Mayweather

September is an exciting time of the year when it comes to sports. Baseball is jam packed with playoff races, NCAA and NFL football is in their opening month, and the U.S Open is in full swing, just to name a few. So, you would figure that given all the excitement about these sports that an idiot wouldn’t come out of any of the said sports right? Wrong.
Early in September, we saw Nyjer Morgan of the Washington Nationals get into a bench clearing brawl for starting a fight over 2 separate on-the-field issues that were both his fault. Looks like he was going to be September’s idiot. Close…but no cigar, Nyjer.
Nope. Despite Nyjer picking a fight that earned him a multiple game suspension, it wasn’t the biggest idiot move of September. That title is reserved for Floyd “Money” Mayweather. At first glance, Floyd Mayweather seems soft spoken and humble, but then you clear that gunk from your eyes and see that this guy is like a little kid who hasn’t learned the value of sportsmanship. Then again, I don’t know if that is something that’s ever been shown to him, since in boxing, the responsibility lies entirely on the boxer. If there’s ever been a fighter that I’ve tried so hard to like, it’s this guy. The problem is “Money” Mayweather never gives me a reason to like him. The worst part of it is he knows he is hated and loves to give people reasons to continue hating him.
Mayweather has never lost a professional boxing match and that, ladies and gentlemen, is the worst kind of fighter to hate. He makes me pull my hair out at night and grit my teeth because for years I’ve been waiting to jump for joy in front of my TV and go HAHA! YOU LOST!! But alas, it hasn’t happened. As much as I don’t like him, he is the definition of pound for pound talent. While there is no denying his skill in the ring, Mayweather recently had the spotlight shone on him for some ill advised actions outside the ring. As much as I would love to tell you all the flat out racist comments directed toward Manny Pacquiao, I couldn’t possibly do it justice. I would much rather let you hear it instead.
YourMVP’s thoughts:
For those of you that don’t know, Manny Pacquiao is the only fighter left worth mentioning that hasn’t fought Mayweather. Many expect Mayweather to retire after this fight. Yet, despite this probably being Mayweather’s last bout, Floyd vs Manny still has not happened after years of preparation. Why? Quite frankly Floyd is scared of Manny. Pacquiao is the only fighter that can match Mayweather’s speed, power, and technical striking. Floyd knows it and comes up with excuse after excuse, culminating in this sad pathetic rant that says more about Floyd than it does about Pac. Let’s go ahead and examine some of the more racist points he touched on:
- Just like a child, Floyd refers to Pacquiao is “pooch-iao.” Why? I have no clue. Your guess is as good as mine on this one. Maybe in an attempt at an insult? But it only makes him look stupid for not being able to pronounce his opponent’s name.
- He calls Pacquiao a midget, clearly mocking his height. But Floyd is 5’8 while Manny stands at 5’6 which is only 2 inches taller than he is. Or was he talking about the reach advantage? Floyd’s reach is at 72 inches while Manny’s reach is at 67 inches. Near identical numbers if you ask me but I was willing to let it fly, until…
- He makes the mistake of thinking that the native dish of Filipinos is “sushi” and “tempura rolls with rice” and later calls him a faggot.
To clear up some confusion that some of you may have about Floyd referring to Manny using “power pellets,” Floyd on many occasions has accused Manny of using steroids. In fact, it’s one of the reasons why their fight hasn’t happened yet. Floyd Mayweather insisted that Manny Pacquiao be tested for steroids. Manny was reluctant to give into this request because he was rather superstitious about anything throwing off his training routine, but it didn’t take long for Manny to agree to this request. The second Manny agreed to Floyd’s demands, Floyd conveniently found other excuses to duck and dodge any fight from going down and later hid behind his promoters until they called the fight off.
If this isn’t the most pathetic, sorry excuse for a fighter, than I don’t know what is. I hate to bring race into this but if you support any of the comments that Floyd made towards Pac than you are just as ignorant and racist as he is. Oh and just for the record, Floyd has since come out and apologized for his comments towards Pacquiao, but clearly the damage was already done.
You would think that after making comments like this, the best thing to do for him would be to lay low and not make any waves until this all passes but he was also recently arrested on grand larceny charges and domestic battery after his ex girlfriend accused him of beating her in front of their children. Floyd has also been charged with coercion and harassment charges that he made while he was beating up on his ex girlfriend. The coercion and harassment counts include alleged threats Mayweather made against his sons. According to the documents, the boxer threatened to beat his kids’ asses if they “called 911 and/or left the residence.”
If convicted of all charges, Floyd could spend up to 28 years behind bars
On a separate note, the fight between these two fighters HAS TO HAPPEN. The future of professional boxing relies on it. In a dying sport where no one can name 10 professional boxers these days (go ahead I dare you) and given the popularity of other sports like MMA, this fight is absolutely paramount for the future of boxing. However, Floyd Mayweather might be more interested in ruining the integrity of the sport rather than preserving his own.
Congrats, Floyd! You took the cake on this one. You are September’s idiot of the month.
And as always, until next time, this has been YourMVP.
